Are you thinking about training to become a professional Pilates teacher? Then choosing the right course is probably one of the most important decisions you will make. If you've been thinking about becoming a Pilates teacher for a while you probably already have a short-list of possible courses. To help you narrow down your selection her are three simple steps you can take:
- Number one for me is to talk to the actual person who will be delivering the pilates teacher training course you are thinking of doing. You are going to be spending a lot of time with this person, they will be your teacher, mentor and probably your assessor too. If for any reason you don't click with them it will make your journey a lot less enjoyable. Ideally get to meet them and take a class with them. If you can visit the studio where the course will be taught then this is even better. When you meet ask to see an example of the course manual and a typical agenda for the modules.
- Talk to someone who has recently trained with the organisation and course tutor you are going to be training with. A good Pilates school will be more than happy to put you in touch with some of their graduates. Have a list of questions prepared that you'd like to ask.
- Find out how many people will be on the course and what the ratio is of students to equipment. If you are choosing comprehensive Pilates education then you will be using reformers, Cadillacs, barrels and chairs. Three students sharing one reformer is the maximum ratio to go for, any more than this and you won't get the hands on experience of teaching or being taught that you need. A good Pilates teacher training course will be based on coaching and mentoring, where you get lots of feedback on your teaching skills and ability to perform the exercises. Quality coaching can only really happy with a maximum ratio of 1:10 course tutor to students.
Deciding on the right course for you can be bewildering at times. However training to become a Pilates teacher is incredibly rewarding. Follow the above three steps and it will help you have confidence in your choice.
